The Nelms / Chavers Band

Josh Nelms & Mike Chavers have been playing around the Tampa Bay area for the last 15 years. They have performed & recorded with some of the best blues men from the area like Sarasota Slim, Jimmy Grizwald, Charlie Morris, T C Carr, Damon Fowler and many more.

Mike is originally from Niagara Falls, NY. He started traveling with tour bands in the early 70’s and moved to N.Y. City in 1976 and started writing and performing in the New York original showcase circuit.

Mike’s band named Sweetwater was playing at The Apollo Theater, The Other End, and Kenny’s Castaway, and the Bottom Line. Mike started working with Jimmy Norman who wrote Time is On My Side – The Rolling Stones. Mike also hooked up With Carl Gardner the founder of the Coasters and worked with them for 6 years. After moving to St Petersburg Mike met Joey Dee – “The Peppermint Twist” guy and toured with Joey for 2 years.

Josh is a Florida Cracker born right here in Plant City. Josh is a fiery guitarist and will shred and barbeque the music and serve it up with a special sauce that will delight everyone.

Spoons AKA Brent Winner is holding down the beat playing the drums and singing the blues.

The band plays a unique mix of blues, soul and roots music. In the bands show you can hear anything from Louie Jordan, Muddy Water, & Johnny Cash to Louie Prima, Wilson Pickett & The Rolling Stones.

Sunday April 6th 2008 Steve Arvey & Mike Chavers will be on WTAN 1340 AM Radio

Mike Chavers will be co- hosting and playing music on WTAN 1340 Live and in person Sunday Night 6th 2008 at 11:59pm EST, with the station hosts Jonathan Sands & Jim Mortellaro, featuring Steve Arvey, in the 3rd of a series of live broadcasts by world renowned artists who either live here in the Tampa Bay area or are traveling through. Mike Chavers will be playing with the Charlie Morris Band at Frenchy’s Rockaway Grille located on 7 Rockaway St. in Clearwater, FL. We are there from 7pm to 11pm pickin and a grinning, selling fish to tourists. So come on out and have some grouper.

Thursday April 3rd 2008

Mike Chavers is going to hook up with the Steve Arvey Band who just got back from his European tour of France, Spain, and Italy. We will be rockin the Ringside Café from 9pm to 1am.

Friday April 4th 2008

Mike Chavers is back with the Charlie Morris Band at Got Wine located at 662 Main St. Dunedin, FL from 7pm until 11pm.

Saturday April 5th 2008

The Mike Chavers Band will be playing at the Stage Door formally the Bent Elbow 7370 Gulf Blvd, St. Petersburg Beach from 9:30 until 1:30am

Sunday April 6th 2008

Mike Chavers will be playing with Deje Groove hosting the Blues Jam at Coconuts Comedy Club located at 2950 Gulf to Bay in Clearwater, FL from 7:30 pm till 11:30

Mike Chavers is playing with Deje Groove at Coconuts Comedy Club, 2950 Gulf to Bay Blvd, Clearwater, FL 33759 from 7:30 to 11:30. We are featuring Jerry Chase on the drums and vocals, Tommy McCoy on guitar and vocals. This is an open jam so bring your ax and come on down and party with the band.

Tommy and I will be hauling ass to get over to the station WTAN AM after the gig so doesn’t forget to tune in and hear some music and road stories.
